CAIRO/NAIROBI, Jan. 14 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean man in his 60s died over the weekend while participating in a competitive marathon in Kenya, local embassy officials confirmed Monday.
The 61-year-old surnamed Yoo suddenly collapsed with respiratory trouble during the Sunday race in Nyahururu, some 200 kilometers north of Nairobi, they said.
He was sent to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
More than 200 people joined the competition and Yoon arrived in Kenya on Jan. 8.
"We learned that he had no particular health problem before the race," a South Korean embassy official told Yonhap News Agency.
Other runners and medical staff think he suffered a heart attack, the official added.
