S. Korea's Gyeongnam FC sign ex-Premier Leaguer Jordon Mutch

SEOUL, Feb. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korean pro football club Gyeongnam FC announced Monday they've acquired former English Premier League (EPL) midfielder Jordon Mutch.

Gyeongnam, last year's K League 1 runners-up, confirmed that Mutch will play for them in the 2019 season, though they didn't disclose the details of his contract. He will wear No. 80 for the South Korean club.

Mutch is a well-known player among EPL fans, having played 78 league matches with various clubs. He also played 92 matches in the second-tier Championship.

The 27 year-old, who made his pro debut with Birmingham City in 2008, is also familiar with South Korean players. He competed with Kim Bo-gyung for a starting spot at Cardiff City in the 2013-14 season, and then played with Yun Suk-young at Queens Park Rangers in the 2014-15 season. Mutch joined Crystal Palace later and became teammates with Lee Chung-yong.

Last year, Mutch played for the Major League Soccer (MLS) club Vancouver Whitecaps on loan, but failed to impress. He terminated his contract with Palace, on mutual consent, last month and was looking for a new club.

Gyeongnam hope Mutch, who represented England at youth levels, can boost their attack in the new season. Kim Jong-boo's side finished second in the 12-team league last year behind a strong season by Brazilian striker Marcao, who was named the K League 1 MVP and won the scoring title. However, Marcao is set to leave the club after receiving lucrative offers from Chinese clubs.
